Laser Hair Removal

Never think about having to shave, tweeze, or wax again. Our laser hair removal system offers a lasting solution for unwanted hair. It emits a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin, to the hair follicle, where it is absorbed. Upon absorption, the energy is transformed into heat, which will disable the follicle, while leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed.

Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?
There is minimal discomfort. It feels like a rubber band snap.

Why should I choose New Genesis for Laser Hair Removal?
Our laser incorporates two energy sources to target the hair follicles Light Energy and Radio Frequency or RF. By adding RF we can give you less Light Energy and therefore less discomfort but get better results than a laser without RF. In January 2010 NYS ruled that the use of Radio Frequency is the practice of medicine and can only be performed by licensed medical professionals. So the least painful but most effective lasers for hair removal can only be used in a real medical office such as New Genesis.

As a medical office our of our providers will prescribe medication for female facial hair that is used in conjunction with laser hair removal making it much more effective.

How does Laser Hair Removal work?
The laser targets the hair follicle without disrupting the skin's surface to remove hair on any part of the body for smooth softer looking skin. The energy directed from the lasers hand piece is absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle, the generated heat energy is designed to destroy the hair follicle so it cannot grow back. Our top of the line approach to laser hair removal is safe for fair skinned person who have dark colored hair. The result is permanent hair reduction providing the most desired effect.

How long does a treatment take?
The length of a laser hair removal session may range from a few minutes to a couple of hours, depending on the size of the area being treated. More than one treatment may be required to complete large areas of the body.

How many treatments are required?
The number of treatments required depends on the type of hair and the region being treated. This is due to the variation of the hair growth cycle in various regions of the body. Since your hair grows in intervals of three cycles, we recommend waiting six to eight weeks in between laser hair removal treatments until your desired result is achieved. Our goal is to target hair growth in the Anagen phase where hair growth is active and contains the most melanin. A precise cost and treatment estimate will be given at the initial consultation. Many people need 10 treatments to receive the best results and we caution consumers from believing promises of lasting results with fewer treatments.

How will my skin look after a treatment?
The appearance of the treated area immediately after a laser session will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of treatment. Immediate after-effects, if any, are minor. Most people return to normal activity right away. We will be happy to tell you more about your treatment and what can be expected during and after the procedure when you contact us for a complimentary consultation.

I was out in the sun, is it okay to get treated?
We recommend staying out of the sun for eight weeks before treatments, for safe and optimal results. We will not treat skin this is tanned.

Is it permanent?
Yes, some hair growth may appear after six to eight treatments but it will be thinner, lighter in color, and grow much slower rate than before. It is permanent hair reduction. Every person is different, but most experience eighty percent or more permanent hair reduction. Maintenance sessions may be necessary in some cases.

Is there any pre-treatment?
You cannot pluck, wax, or have electrolysis in the areas you want to treat for six weeks prior to laser hair removal. YOU MUST NOT tan areas for eight weeks prior to treatment. Avoid using self-tanning products for two weeks prior to treatment.

What about facial hair for women?
Facial Hair for women is caused by hormones and will never go away completely. Research has shown that that you can minimize the return of unwanted facial hair by using the prescription cream Vaniqa in conjunction with the laser hair removal. We will only prescribe Vaniqa to our patients. For more information go to Vaniqa.com.

What body areas can be treated?
The upper lip and chin, neck, chest, arms, underarms, abdomen, bikini area, back, buttocks and legs, can all be treated.

What post-treatment is necessary?
You will need to use sunscreen regularly during your laser treatment package and for six weeks after completing your packages. Avoid irritants such as glycolics or Retin A for seven days before and after treatments. Do not tan areas for two weeks after treatment.

What guarantees do you offer?
Because people respond differently to all treatments, licensed health professionals are restricted in NYS from guaranteeing results. Our policy is based on research that suggests most people need 10 treatments to an area so we offer a discounted package price for 10 treatments.  The ten treatments must be completed within two years from the start date of the treatment package. If any hair growth remains within 24 months from the start date the patient will receive additional treatments every 6 weeks until hair growth has resolved or the 24 month window has ended.
